Elohim

Elohim
God the Creator

The Hebrew Name of God Elohim means God the Creator, Sovereign God, Majestic God, and God of Eternity.

Elohim is a plural word used with singular verbs, adjectives, and pronouns conveying both one God and the unity of the one God in a plurality of persons. It is the first place we see the concept of the trinity and the confirmation of Colossian 1:16 about Jesus – “For by Him all things were created both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things have been created by Him and for Him.”

Genesis 1:26 further confirms this plurality of the One True God – “Then Elohim said, ‘Let Us make mankind in Our image according to Our Likeness... ’”

The Name Elohim is used throughout the creation story recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. It ends with a day to rest and bask in the beauty of His artistry. In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth by the power of His spoken Word:

The 1st Day – God created light and divided it from the darkness, creating day and night.

The 2nd Day – God divided the waters above from the waters below, creating the heaven and oceans.

The 3rd Day – God gathered the waters, creating dry land and seas. He created vegetation yielding seed to reproduce itself.

The 4th Day – God created the sun, moon and stars as lights in the heaven to rule day and night on the earth.

The 5th Day – God created birds and fish multiplying after their kind to fill the heaven and seas.

The 6th Day – God created animals multiplying after their kind to fill the dry land. God created man and woman in His image to be companions, to multiply and to govern the earth.

The 7th DayGod rested with a delighted satisfaction in the goodness of His creation. He blessed the seventh day and asked us to join in the basking.
