Full earth

Full earth!
O Lord, how many are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all;
The earth is full of Your riches.
Psalm 104

O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:9

The Full Earth Art Card Story

In June 2015, I went to the senior recital of my flower girl from 13 years prior, Julia Bonifield.  When she sang Walking in the Air, I was moved to tears. At the reception, Julia told me she was thinking about the Lord when she sang it; and that is what I was thinking about, too.

I thought of the verse in Ephesians 2:6 about how He raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus…

I later learned that the song was the theme from The Snowman movie. So, I watched it and sang the song over and over again. I noticed that the “monster” mentioned in the song was just a big whale that was frolicking in the sea. The whale felt the joyful presence of the boy and snowman and was “roused from his sleep” when they were “suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep.”

The whale tale became a symbol to me of creation’s joyful response to its Creator. When we feel God’s presence, we, too,  are roused from our sleep and filled with joy!

With the inspiration I received from the song, I pulled out some batik fabric that I had purchased to make that never-have-time-to-make quilt and put it together instead into a fabric mural. I included a moonlit, midnight-blue sky and river, hills and streams, with the last touch—a whale tale made from silver-painted paper and glitter from the moonlight. The 30 by 44-inch mural hangs in our foyer. (For more photos, see the end of this blog.)

Then, I decided to make a card out of it. A kind gentleman at the fabric store said there was no way he could find the same fabric again or know what country it was created in, let alone find the artist or a copyright. So, he gave his permission for me to print my own design from the collage I made with the colorful batik fabrics.

This card is a collaboration of one beautifully-sung song in a small church on June 6, 2015, beautiful batik fabric created by an unknown (but not unknown to God) artist, and the Lord’s inspiration to combine the two through my hands.

Be blessed in His creation of you!

The Lyrics for Walking in the Air

by Howard Blake for the movie The Snowman, lyrics © EMI Music Publishing

We're walking in the air
We're floating in the moonlit sky
The people far below are sleeping as we fly

I'm holding very tight
I'm riding in the midnight blue
I'm finding I can fly so high above with you

Far across the world
The villages go by like dreams
The rivers and the hills, the forests and the streams

Children gaze open mouthed
Taken by surprise
Nobody down below believes their eyes

We're surfing in the air
We're swimming in the frozen sky
We're drifting over icy mountains floating by

Suddenly swooping low
On an ocean deep
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep

And walking in the air
We're dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly

We're walking in the air
We're walking in the air
