I Am the Root and the Offspring of David
The Bright Morning Star
“I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright Morning Star.” (Revelation 22:16)
Wrapped in this small verse is the huge wonder that Christ is the Bright Star “in the beginning with God” (John 1:2), the long-awaited Messiah.
“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)
While the Pharisees were challenging Jesus, He asked them, “What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?” They said to Him, “The son of David.”
Jesus asked them, “Then how does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying, ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies beneath your feet’? If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his son?”
No one was able to answer Him a word. (Matthew 22:41-45a)
Jesus is the Root from which sprang the people of promise, as well as their Offspring. (Luke 3:31-32; Matthew 1:1-16)
Isaiah prophesied, “Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him... Then in that day the nations will resort to the root of Jesse who will stand as a signal for the peoples; and His resting place will be glorious.” (Isaiah 11:1, 2, 10)
Jesus is the Sunrise from on high (Luke 1:78) and The Morning Star arising in our hearts (2 Peter 1:19). He is The Sun of Righteousness risen with healing in its wings (Malachi 4:2).
He was there when “the morning stars sang together” (Job 38:7).
Blessed be His glorious name forever! (Psalm 72:19)

The original artwork for this Art Card was created with a pointed calligraphy pen, a pointed brush and masking fluid that repelled the watercolors.
It was important for me to use orange and blue dusk-like hues for the sky.
