Yahweh Shalom

Yahweh Shalom
The Lord our Peace

Gideon said, “Alas, O Lord God! I have seen the angel of the Lord face to face.” The Lord said, “Peace to you, do not fear; you shall not die.” Then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and named it The Lord is Peace. Judges 6:22-24

Shalom is a Hebrew greeting offering a blessing upon every part of a person’s life. The Shalom of God means harmony, wholeness, completeness in our bodies, emotions, mind, relationships, provision, and environment.

Shalom is the stability and contentment that comes when nothing is emphasized at the expense of something else. Shalom is fulfillment, restoration, reconciliation. In the Old Testament, Isaiah prophesied of the Messiah, the Prince of Peace, hundreds of years before He was born. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall rest upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

In the New Testament, the Greek eirēnē is the peace of Christ that is received through a relationship with Him. Paul writes in Colossians 1:20 that, through Jesus Christ, the Father reconciled all things to Himself and made peace through the blood of His cross. His blood is the red ribbon that brings peace to every part, that redeems and restores. “Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16
