August – I am Chosen
Chosen is the Hebrew bāhîr.
Jesus said, “You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit and that your fruit would remain…” John 15:16a
He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world that we would be holy and blameless before Him. Ephesians 1:4
You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

When we receive Jesus the Messiah, our Father God brings us into an eternal, intimate, covenant relationship with Himself by the Holy Spirit. He gives us names that describe our identity as those who have been born again into His family. They remain constant even though the clouds of our feelings, circumstances, weakness, grief, failure, and emotions may hide their reality. We have this hope as an anchor of our souls, a hope both sure and steadfast...(Hebrews 6:19)
The devotional on the back of the I am Chosen Art Card:
I am Chosen.
The word august means “full of solemn splendor and dignity,” so I chose this month to remember that our Father chose and appointed us to a noble calling as His ambassadors. (2 Corinthians 5:20) He commissioned us with the fragrant, gold oil of the Holy Spirit, and sent us forth into the world under His protection.
King David wrote from his experience as a shepherd, “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” Psalm: 23:5b
While in the mountains with his sheep, David covered their heads and nostrils with oil to protect them from the maddening infestation of flies. Once the oil was applied, the sheep were at peace. David understood the anointing and protection of His Father God.
Little did he know at that time that he would be chosen by God to be king, covered with oil, and miraculously protected from his enemies. “Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward.” 1 Samuel 16:12-13
Thank You, my Father, for Your anointing that protects me from false teaching and the enemy’s accusations and schemes.
1 John 2:26-27
