In Him we live
and move and have our being

The text from Acts 17:22-31:
So Paul [on his missionary journey] stood in the midst of the Areopagus [in Athens] and said, “Men of Athens, I see that you are very religious in all respects. For while I was passing through and examining the objects of your worship, I also found an altar with this inscription, TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you.

The God who made the world and everything that is in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made by hands, nor is He served by human hands as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things, and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God if perhaps they might feel around for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being, as even some of your own poets have said, “For we also are His descendants.” Therefore, since we are the descendants of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by human skill and thought. So, having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now proclaiming to mankind that all people everywhere are to repent, because He has set a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all people by raising Him from the dead.”

Paul masterfully in the Spirit of God shared the gospel with the Athenians in Greece. No one would be living and moving if not for God’s creation. But all must repent and receive the atonement in Jesus Messiah for their sins.

The words on the front and back of this card are simply, “In Him we live and move and have our being.” from Acts 17:28.

Many of my paintings were never intended to become cards one day, until, of course, Flower Girl Greetings was born in 2012. This original artwork was painted with watercolor in about 2004. After the watercolor was dry, I painted letters over it with a script (pointed) pen filled with white gouache [opaque watercolor].

My inspiration came from John 15:5, “I am the Vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.” The crimson center of the vine represents Jesus’ shed blood that frees us from the power of sin and gives us abundant life. The life that flows through Him flows through us after we receive Him (John 1:12) and are connected to Him like a branch full of flowing sap.

A friend of mine who is an open-heart nurse practitioner said the painting reminded her of our vascular system. Truly His blood makes us whiter than snow. We are His, and we live and move and have our physical and spiritual being in Him. His emotions are ours. His love is ours. Everything He is is ours if we will abide in the Vine…in Him.

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
