Yahweh Nissi
The Lord our Banner

Moses called God Yahweh Nissi after their victory over a cruel enemy. Nissi is derived from the Hebrew nēs meaning signal pole, standard, banner or sail. Yahweh Nissi means The Lord our Banner.

A banner is a piece of fabric that is raised in a place where it may be seen by many. Banners are a point of focus, a symbol of hope and victory; they are a gathering tool.

In Isaiah 13:2, God rallied His people to prepare to conquer, “Lift up a banner upon the high bare mountain…”

In Psalm 20:5, King David said, “We will sing for joy over your victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners.” Even in David’s defeat, he could say, “You have given a banner to those who fear You, that it may be displayed because of the truth.” (Psalm 60:4)

God calls us to exult in His triumph. We raise His banner by trusting Him. People see our banner and have hope. The Israeli flag’s blue color was inspired by the Jewish prayer shawl that symbolizes trust in God. The red art symbolizes our banner, Jesus Christ, who said, “The Son of Man must be lifted up, so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.” (John 3:14-15)

The Yahweh Nissi Card is found in the Hebrew Names of God Art Card Collection at Flower Girl Greetings.com

I spent hours in the art shop looking for just the right color of "Israeli" blue watercolor to paint the flag!

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
