Redeemer
Gō’ēl

The Hebrew word for Redeemer, gō’ēl, is found most abundantly in the book of Isaiah. God’s redemption comes after a recounting of loss or waywardness. To redeem means to restore, to clear by payment, or to exchange something bad for something good.

In Israelite law, gō’ēl refers to a close relative, a kinsman-redeemer, who keeps the family as one by restoring all losses, debts and offenses.

God spoke through the prophet Isaiah during a time when the land was devoid of justice and truth, and no one was willing to intercede. “Then His own arm brought salvation…”

God armed Himself like a warrior to redeem the devastation. “‘So they will fear the name of the Lord from the west and His glory from the rising of the sun for He will come like a rushing stream. A Redeemer will come to Zion to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,’ declares the Lord.” Isaiah 59:19-20

Who is this Redeemer, this Arm of the Lord? The Lord Himself Who came to live among us – Jesus Christ.

Paul writes of Christ, “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 – Cleared by the payment of Christ, defended by His love, given His beauty in exchange for our rebellion, freed from our hopelessness, restored!

Praise to our Kinsman Redeemer!

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
