Yom Kippur
The Veil has been torn!

In this year of 2020, Yom Kippur or The Day of Atonement begins at sundown on September 27th and lasts through the 28th

The Feast of Trumpets, celebrated last weekend, is followed by The Days of Awe – ten days of repentance and preparation. These days end with a day of fasting called Yom Kippur, the most sacred Jewish holiday of the year. On this day, only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies in the temple to offer a sacrifice for the sins of the people. A large veil of blue, purple, and crimson linen blocked access to this holy place where God dwelled. (2 Chronicles 3:14).

This veil was a constant reminder that breaking God’s law brought separation from Him.

The yearly sacrifice given on Yom Kippur foreshadowed the Perfect Sacrifice that was to come later. The author of the book of Hebrews tells us, “But when Messiah appeared as a high priest of the good things to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, not of this creation, and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.” (Hebrews 9:11-12)

Yeshua the Messiah laid down His life for us. He paid the penalty for our sins. “The Lord caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him.” (Isaiah 53:6b)  He is the Perfect Sacrifice for all people for all time! On that Roman execution stake, Yeshua cried, “It is finished!” Our sin was crushed and our redemption was secured. At His last breath, the thick veil was torn and opened, and we are now welcomed into God’s presence!  (Matthew 27:51; Luke 23:45)

“Whenever a person turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away!” (2 Corinthians 3:16) Yeshua said, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) – We are welcomed into rest from sin, judgment and death!  “We have this hope as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one that enters within the veil.” (Hebrews 6:19)

The deep tones of these ancient blue, purple, and crimson dyes were extracted from the mollusks found along the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Their vibrant hues declare the message – There is no fear, only peace and joy!

These words from Stuart Townsend’s hymn “How Deep the Father’s Love” share the amazing wonder and grace of Jesus’ Passover of our sins because of His shed blood:
It was my sin that left Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom.

We worship and praise You together, our Lord and Savior!

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
