Sparrow

The original artwork for Sparrow was created with pointed-pen calligraphy and cut and torn paper that I painted with various metallic paints and inks.

The encouragement to create this card was found in a hymn called His Eye is on the Sparrow. The entire hymn is found on the back of the card:

Text on the back of the Sparrow card:

His Eye is on the Sparrow is a hymn based on verses from the book of Matthew. The hymn was written in 1905 by Civilla D. Martin and Charles H. Gabriel:
Why should I feel discouraged,
Why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely,
And long for heav’n and home,
When Jesus is my portion?
My constant Friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Refrain:
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,”
His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness,
I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth,
but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.
Whenever I am tempted,
Whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing,
When hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him,
From care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.

Matthew 6:26
Behold the birds of the air, for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

Matthew 10:29-31
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And not one of them shall fall on the ground without your Father knowing. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So, don’t be afraid, because you are of more value than many sparrows.

Welcome to Shale Fragments, a collection of writings and art for individual and group use!

Teaching God’s truth and the beauty of His Word is my greatest delight! My art card company, Flower Girl Greetings, was launched in 2012 with this purpose. In April 2020, ShaleFragments.com became the gathering place for the writings.

As I have studied the rich meanings of the original Greek and Hebrew languages of the Bible, I continue to see beautiful progressions and connections that compel me to organize and convey their life-changing beauty!
